FR TOM WRITES
On Saturday, 8th November, Cardinal Vincent Nichols celebrated his 80th birthday. Let us pray for him as he continues his ministry as a shepherd to all of us living in Westminster Diocese, giving thanks for the 16 years he has been our Archbishop and praying that he may be granted many more years of health and faith.
REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
We join with people across our nation in remembering all those who have given their lives in service of peace and freedom. Let us pray for men and women of the Armed Forces, that they may work for justice and the protection of human dignity.
MONTH OF THE HOLY SOULS
The Requiem Mass for the Deanery will take place at Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St George’s, Enfield, on Tuesday 11 November at 12 noon. The Mass for Deceased Priests of the Diocese is on Tuesday 18 Nov, at 5.30pm in Westminster Cathedral.
CHRISTMAS MARKET 2025
The preparations for this year’s Christmas Market are well in hand. It will take place on 22nd/23rd November after all Masses. We would welcome any books, gifts etc. Homemade cakes will be especially welcome on the day. Last year’s cake stall broke all records so a very big thank you in advance. Proceeds from the sale will help to pay for new hymn books. Looking forward to seeing you all over the weekend.
Thank you. Janet Butterworth
CATHOLIC CHILDREN’S SOCIETY
Once again, Fr David will be collecting Christmas gifts to be distributed by the Catholic Children’s Society. Gifts should be toys: new and unwrapped. He will be taking them to the society at the beginning of December. Thank you for your kindness.
SICK AND RETIRED PRIEST COLLECTION FUND
The second collection next week will be for the sick and retired priests of our Diocese. Last year, there were 73 retired priests, at a cost of £1,270,000. Donation envelopes are at the back of the church. You can make a one-off donation or you can set up a regular donation and become a Patron by completing section 4 on the envelope form. You can also donate online at www.rcdow.org.uk/donations. Please continue to pray for the wellbeing of all of our clergy: active, retired and ill. Thank you.
CONFIRMATION SIGN-UP
Next year, Confirmations will be celebrated on Friday 17 April at 7pm. This will be for young parishioners who are in Year 9 or above and are baptised Catholics who have made their First Holy Communion. Parents and candidates are invited to come to one sign-up session on either: Saturday 8 November (4.30-5.30) or Saturday 15 November (4.30-5.30) in the parish centre. If not baptised here please bring evidence of Baptism. The offering asked for the course is £50.
CHRISTMAS GIFT THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE
Please kindly support the Christmas Appeal of the Sisters who live locally in our parish. You can do this by giving virtual gifts that will make a difference to many poor people in their missions overseas. There are four gifts i.e. one for each country - Vietnam, Bangladesh, Peru and India Central. You may choose one or however many you wish, and for each one you will receive a card which you can give as a Christmas present. At the back of the church are copies of the Christmas Gift catalogue.
CAR PARK INFORMATION
There is a sheet in the church porch with important information about changes to the car park. If you use the car park for Mass or other activities, please take a copy.
FAIR TRADE
This weekend’s Fair Trade stall includes the ‘Real’ Advent Calendars with fair trade chocolate treats, a new booklet with the REAL story of Christmas plus fun activities. We help developing countries’ farmers and CAFOD which receives our profit.
