FR DAVID WRITES
We are very much back into the full swing of autumn term. Today is your last chance to sign up for an appointment for secondary school transfer. Please bring the self-assessment with you to the meeting (if there were no forms left last time, please collect one this weekend from the shop or from the parish office during the week). Today there is a pastoral letter from the Cardinal on a number of events coming our way soon - not least the imminent canonisation. Today we will also hear the autumn talk from our CAFOD reps at Mass, as this coming Friday is Harvest Family Fast Day.
WORLD MIGRANT DAY
Today is also a special day of prayer for the migrants of our world. Please remember our brothers and sisters at this critical time.
SPECIAL MASS FOR CARDINAL NEWMAN
There will be a special Mass celebrated here on Saturday 19th October at 10 am in thanksgiving for the canonisation of Cardinal John Henry Newman. Cardinal Newman will become the first new English saint to be proclaimed in almost 50 years. Cardinal Newman was born in London in 1801 and thus is considered a native saint of our own archdiocese. The canonisation takes place in Rome on 13th October.
WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE CATHOLIC FAITH?
Beginning on Tuesday 15th October at 7.45pm in the Small Hall and each Tuesday thereafter Fr Andrew will lead a series of talks and discussions on various aspects of the Catholic Faith. The aim of the course is to deepen our understanding of the riches of our faith. This is a great opportunity to learn more and to ask those questions that you have always wanted to ask.
FAMILY FAST DAY—OCTOBER 4th
No one should be beyond reach of the love and support they need to thrive. This Fast Day, CAFOD invites us to fast, pray and give, so we can extend the hand of friendship to the world’s poorest people. Fabiano’s village in rural Uganda has been devastated by drought. Every day, children would trek miles for water, risking their education – and safety. Donations from parishioners across England and Wales helped install a solar powered water pump in the village. Now Fabiano and his friends can collect water quickly and safely. On Family Fast Day, CAFOD invites us to eat a simple meal for lunch or dinner and give the money we save to help children like Fabiano. Please collect a Fast Day envelope from church this week and return next weekend and give generously.
