FR DAVID WRITES
I’m sure you have all seen the news from the Prime Minister about the ‘rule of six’. Thankfully, these new restrictions do not apply to Masses here which can continue in the safe way we have developed. However, there are other ‘social’ elements to our life in the parish. We encourage parishioners to be cautious, especially about gathering outside after Mass. We are awaiting further updates on other activities, especially those which take place in the parish hall. Please continue to take care and keep safe—stay alert!
CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations and well done to all our children who celebrated their First Confession this week, either in here at school or in church. We were so pleased to be able to proceed with these celebrations after such a long wait.
PRESENTATION FOR DAVID
We will hold a special collection this weekend in order to make a presentation to David Knight. He will be ordained this coming Saturday at Westminster Cathedral. The Mass here for him will be Tuesday 22nd September (ticket only).
PARISH OFFICE
We kindly ask that you contact our office by phone or email in the first instance. Please do not come in person without prior arrangement. Thank you.
FACE COVERING & HAND SANITISER
It is essential that everyone uses the hand sanitiser on the way in to church. The law in England says that face coverings should be worn in churches, with legitimate exemptions.
THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS
Many thanks to the parishioners who volunteer to supervise and clean the church at the times when it is open—we are all very grateful.
SATURDAY 5PM MASS
Saturday Mass at 5pm has been discontinued. The Masses at 4pm and 6pm continue.
FIRST HOLY COMMUNIONS 2020
The First Holy Communion Masses will be celebrated here in church in October.
Unfortunately, the places at these Masses are strictly limited so it will not be possible to invite other parishioners. Thank you for your understanding, and please pray for the children as they continue to prepare for this important event. For First Holy Communion 2021, please wait for further information.
CONFIRMATIONS 2020
We are now currently working on plans for the Confirmations that we due to have taken place in June. More information as soon as we have it.
CHRISM MASS
On Monday, Fr David will participate in the long postponed Chrism Mass on behalf of the Deanery of Enfield. During this Mass, which usually takes place in Holy Week, the bishops and priests consecrate the holy oils for use in the sacraments. Please note that this Chrism Mass is not open to the public.
PAPAL VISIT—10TH ANNIVERSARY
Pope Benedict XVI made his state visit to the UK ten years ago this week (16th-19th September 2010), during which he visited our diocese and beatified John Henry Newman in Birmingham. We give thanks for the continued blessings of his visit to our country and. We will remember the visit in our prayers at 12pm Mass on Friday 18th September.
SECOND COLLECTIONS
We recognise that the financial challenges created by the pandemic and downturn in the economy are affecting many in our communities. While parishioners have continued to demonstrate generosity in their giving, it is important to recognise the reality that many currently face. Therefore, the number of second collections has been greatly reduced by the Bishops’ Conference. Today we have a collection for David, next week we will take the collection for the Holy Places which was missed on Good Friday. The only other collections before Christmas will be for CAFOD on 11th October and for the Sick and Retired Priests of the Diocese on 8th November. Many thanks for your generosity in these most difficult of times.
SECONDARY SCHOOL FORMS
We are working with the diocese regarding the signing of secondary school forms. Please wait for information.
