CARDINAL’S VISIT TO OUR PARISH - FR DAVID WRITES
This coming Friday is the solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. At 7 pm we will celebrate our parish centenary Mass with Cardinal Nichols. Everyone is invited, and there will be a reception afterwards in the parish centre. A bit of advice: it might be better to walk, take public transport or park on the street as the car park will be very busy. We look forward to welcoming the Cardinal and seeing you all at this special event. The work in the church (so far) is almost concluded; the contractors will hand back the church officially on Monday. The stone work and gradine will be installed later in the year. Thank you all for your patience, generosity and support.

SACRED HEART
As Friday is the solemnity of the Sacred Heart, there is no Friday abstinence this week.

CHURCH CLEANING
Calling all teams to gather after 10am Mass on Wednesday (approx. 10.30am) to clean the church and its environs in preparation for the special Mass on Friday. New faces welcome too! It might be useful to bring a cloth or two!

SERVERS
Fr David has already gathered a group of altar servers for the Cardinal’s Mass who will rehearse in church on Thursday evening at 6 pm. We cannot, therefore, accept servers who simply turn up on the night. We kindly ask you take a seat in the congregation.

NINO DI FONZO RIP
The funeral will take place on Thursday 14th June at 10am. May he rest in peace.

FAIRTRADE
The Fairtrade stall will be open this weekend after all Masses in the Parish Hall.

MASS TIMES THIS WEEK
On Tuesday there is an all-day deanery event. This means that there will only be one Mass here at 7am. Please note that all the priests will be busy that day with the deanery event, and that there is no 10am Mass on Tuesday. Additionally, there is no 10am Mass on Friday as it is replaced by the special Mass at 7pm.

PARISH OFFICE
The Parish Office will officially be open on Wednesday, but as we will mostly be involved in preparing the church it might be better to bring any business on a different morning. Thanks for your consideration with this.

PARISH BARBECUE
As part of our celebrations, there will be a Parish Barbecue in the courtyard on the evening of Friday 14 July. Tickets will be available soon. If you would like to come, please make a note of the date.  Thank you to those who are already involved as volunteers and organisers.

SCHOOL FORMS
Fr David has signed a number of forms - please come to collect them when the office is open. Thank you.

FR JEROME
As announced last weekend, please keep Fr Jerome in your prayers as he prepares to begin a new appointment after the summer holidays. He is waiting patiently for the full details. There will be an opportunity to thank him in due course.

CELEBRATING CORPUS CHRISTI IN CENTRAL LONDON
The annual Corpus Christi Procession through central London departs from Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Warwick Street at 3pm on Sunday 11 June.

WELCOMING CARDINAL VINCENT NICHOLS
Cardinal Vincent Nichols is the Archbishop of Westminster - he is the bishop of our diocese. He is assisted by three auxiliary bishops, one of whom is Bishop John Sherrington who is responsible for our area in the diocese. As a cardinal, Cardinal Nichols also has a responsibility to the Church of Rome and in collaborating with the Holy Father in his ministry for the whole Church. As you know, cardinals also have the heavy responsibility of voting for a new pope during the vacant see. The Cardinal became our archbishop on 21 May 2009. He was previously Archbishop of Birmingham. He comes from Liverpool and was ordained priest in 1969. Two years ago, at the age of 75, he offered his resignation to the Pope as all bishops are required to do. The Pope has asked him to continue for the time being. We all look forward to welcoming the Cardinal to our parish!
