The funeral of Christopher Cassidy, Fr. Damian's dad, will take place on Tuesday 14th October at 12.30 pm at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, in Maidstone, Kent. 

Parking is difficult around the church and, if you would like to attend, you are recommended to take the train from either Charing Cross or Victoria, and alight at Maidstone East, which is situated across the road from the church.

The Diocese of Westminster has seen a rise in the number of seminarians at Allen Hall, the diocese's seminary.

This month 12 men started their formation at the seminary in Chelsea, west London, bringing the number up to 43. This is an increase from 40 men training to be priests in 2007 and 37 the year before that. Three of the new intake are from the Neocatechumenal Way, the movement that has contributed greatly to vocations in the diocese in recent years.

Pope John Paul II often spoke of the new evangelisation, but what exactly did he mean and, more to the point, is it anything to do with us? According to Mgr Keith Barltrop, it is.

Many of us recognise that evangelisation is something we are required to do as Catholics. But the point of doing it remains hazy. The reason God calls us to evangelise is that He wants the Catholic faith to be shared with everyone. The ultimate purpose of evangelisation is "the conversion of England". That phrase is unpopular these days because of its negative historical associations. But it describes our aim perfectly.
