Jesus tells us not to worry about food, clothing or other material things.  Our heavenly Father feeds the birds and adorns the flowers.  All that we need will be given to us.

God calls for the people to embrace holiness by showing love to everyone and avoiding the holding of grudges.

St Paul points out that God’s wisdom is different from the thinking prevalent in the world.  Every person should be regarded as a temple of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus brings the Law and the Prophets to fulfilment by proclaiming a holiness that reaches down to our deepest selves. 

Isaiah 58: 7-10

The Lord instructs us to share bread with hungry and shelter the homeless.  If we act with mercy our light will rise in the darkness. 

1 Corinthians 2: 1-5

Paul writes that he did not come to the Corinthians with great skills in oratory or philosophy.  He was filled with the power of the Spirit to share news of the crucified Christ. 

Matthew 5: 13-16

Jesus tells his disciples that they are the salt of the earth, the light of the world and a city built on a hilltop.  He encourages his disciples to keep God’s light in their lives so that others may see and praise God.
