God promises to make Jeremiah strong in his vocation as a prophet.

Paul tells us about the three great theological values of faith, hope and love.  Love is the one that lasts for all eternity.

 

Luke 4: 21-30

Jesus is rejected in his home town of Nazareth as he preaches the universality of the Good News.

Nehemiah 8:2-6. 8-10

The prophet Ezra teaches the returning exiles the Law of God.  As they listen and understand, their tears are turned to rejoicing.

Joined to Christ in Baptism and filled with his Spirit, Christians share a new way in each other’s joys and sorrows, gifts and burdens.

 

Luke 1: 1-4: 14-21

At the start of Jesus’ ministry he proclaims his good news of healing and liberation.  In his person he fulfils the words of the prophets.

Isaiah 62: 1-5

The prophet speaks of Jerusalem’s glorious future, when the Lord will address her as “My Delight” and her land as “The Wedded”.

 

1 Corinthians 12: 4-11

There are many gifts and many ministries but one God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – is at work in them all.

 

John 2: 1-11

At a marriage feast in Cana of Galilee, Jesus gives his first “sign” and begins to reveal himself.

Isaiah 40: 1-5. 9-11

The messenger of God announces that the Lord is coming with power.

Titus 2: 11-14; 3: 4-7

God has saved us through the cleansing waters of Baptism.

 

Luke 3: 15-16. 21-22

Jesus is baptised and receives the Holy Spirit and his Father’s acknowledgement.

Isaiah 60: 1-6

The prophet looks to the day when God’s glory is revealed. All nations will come bearing gifts to worship the God of Israel.

 

Ephesians 3: 2-3. 5-6

Now that God’s glory has been revealed, the promise of salvation is offered to all peoples.

 

Matthew 2: 1-12

The wise men come, bearing gifts of great meaning, to worship the infant king of the Jews.
