1 Samuel 1: 20-22. 24-28
Hannah, who was thought unable to conceive, pleads with God to give her a son and vows to dedicate that son to God. She fulfils her vow and dedicates Samuel to the service of the temple.
1 John 3: 1-2. 21-24
God’s gift of love is that Jesus we are the children of God. If we are true to God in this life, our hope for the future will be realised: we shall see God as God really is.
Luke 2: 41-52
This incident marks the end of Luke’s infancy narrative and foreshadows the climax of his Gospel, where Jesus teaches in the Temple and incurs the opposition of the chief priests, scribes and leading citizens.

Daniel 7: 13-14
In his mysterious vision, Daniel glimpses the peace and unity of God’s kingdom. At the centre of his vision is a figure of a man who is divinely given kingship – a foreshadowing of Jesus.
Apocalypse 1: 5-8
In a revelation of the last things, this reading calls us to look beyond the here and now to Christ’s eternal reign. All things are drawn to him and in his love we are made a royal priesthood.
John 18: 33-37
At the end of his life, Jesus stands before Pilate as both powerless and King. His kingship is not of this world, but draws us into truth.
