Isaiah 35: 4-7
The prophet Isaiah offers words of hope and encouragement to those who are poor and downtrodden, assuring them that God is always faithful and that they will not be abandoned. 

James 2: 1-5
St James says that the one who walks in Christ’s footsteps will be the one who welcomes everyone in his name without discrimination. 

Mark 7: 31-37
The story of Jesus healing the man who is deaf and has a speech impediment reminds us of the power of his love for all humanity.  His desire to heal is there for us too. 

Joshua 24: 1-2, 15-18
Joshua asks the newly liberated Israelites whom they would worship – the gods of their neighbours, or the God who brought them out of Egypt.  Their choice would bind them to the true God forever. 

Ephesians 5: 21-32
In this letter married couples are urged to respect and serve each other, self-sacrificially, with love.  Such is the relationship between Christ and his Church. 

John 6: 60-69
Jesus responds to the difficulties of his followers over his teaching on the Eucharist.  He challenges them to follow him, or leave.  The apostles know that with him is life eternal. 

Apocalypse 11:19, 12: 1-6, 10
John sees a vision of a woman in childbirth and a dragon waiting to eat the child when it is born.  But the boy she bears is taken straight up to heaven and the woman escapes to the desert. 

1 Corinthians 15: 20-26
Death came through one man, Adam, and death has been conquered by one man, Christ.  All who belong to Christ will be brought to life. 

Luke 1: 39-56
Mary, pregnant with Jesus, visits her cousin, Elizabeth, pregnant with John the Baptist.  John leaps in Elizabeth’s womb.  Elizabeth recognizes Mary as the mother of the Lord.  Mary speaks her prayer, the Magnificat. 

1 Kings 19: 4-8
Elijah, fleeing persecution, is given food for his journey. 

Ephesians 4:30–5:2
The Holy Spirit calls us from negative living to imitate the love of God. 

John 6: 41-51
Jesus is the living bread, by which we will live forever. 

Exodus 16: 2-4, 12-15
In the desert the Israelites complain about food, and hanker for the fleshpots of Egypt. 

Ephesians 4: 17, 20-24
Beware of aimless living, says St Paul.  Be renewed by a spiritual revolution. 

John 6: 24-35
Do you eat to live or live to eat?  Look for the true bread, Jesus Christ himself.
