THIS WEEK IS THE OCTAVE OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY:
As the name suggests, this is a time of prayer when we unite our own intentions with those of the Lord Jesus who, before his death and resurrection, prayed for the unity of his followers. Children from our primary school (Year 1 and Year 4) will join us at 10 am Mass this Thursday morning to lead us in a special Mass for unity and reconciliation. The Mass will be followed by Benediction.

FR DAVID ON THE CHRISTMAS SEASON:
Today is the Feast of the Lord's Baptism which marks the formal end of the Christmas season. Liturgically, however, the Christmas mystery reaches forward towards the Feast of Candlemas on 2 February. I know that some of you keep your cribs out till then. This is an opportunity for the priests once again to send you all Christmas blessings and thanks for your gifts and cards. Tomorrow we begin the season of Ordinary Time until the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday, 6 March.

CRIB OFFERINGS:
The Catholic Children’s Society supports disadvantaged children and families across London, Hertfordshire and the South East, working with individuals of all faiths and none; our sole aim is to help those in greatest need.  Thank you for your donations to the Crib this Christmas.

THANK YOU AND WELL DONE:
Many thanks to all involved in a number of successful and enjoyable events last weekend, including the Bernadette Club Christmas lunch, the Anointing Mass, the Volunteers Christmas Party, Sunday tea party and the Carol Service at St Paul’s. Your generosity and commitment is greatly appreciated by everyone.

FLOWER POWER’
Thank you to all those who supported the sale last weekend. Our Monday Group for vulnerable adults will be holding its next sale on Sunday 16th December after all Masses in the Parish Hall.  Unique original dry flower pieces for sale as well as table decorations.

WELCOME BISHOP SHERRINGTON:

AID TO THE CHURCH IN NEED (ACN) - RED WEDNESDAY:

FR DAVID WRITES:
I am very pleased to say that Fr Andrew Bowden has been appointed as our new assistant priest, beginning at the start of December. Fr Andrew was ordained last year in Enfield Town and has been working as a chaplain at Westminster Cathedral. I’m so pleased he is coming to us and I know he will receive a very warm welcome. I look forward to a long and fruitful ministry for Fr Andrew here at Our Lady of Lourdes!

SICK & RETIRED PRIESTS’ COLLECTION:
Next week our parish will take up the annual collection to support the sick and retired priests of the Diocese of Westminster. Your generous donation helps ensure that these priests, having followed their vocation and given their lives to the Church, are cared for and supported when they are sick and when they retire. The Sick & Retired Priests’ Fund helps cover the medical, housing, convalescence, and personal needs of these priests, as well as helping them in an emergency. They have been here for us; let us be there for them. Donation leaflets are available in the back of the church today. Please take one home, read about this important work, and bring it back next weekend with your donation. Please continue to pray for the wellbeing of all of our clergy: active, retired and ill. You can donate online anytime at www.rcdow.org.uk/donations

WORLD PORRIDGE DAY:
On Sunday 28th October we will be supporting the Mary’s Meals World Porridge Day appeal. Why porridge? In Malawi, Liberia and Zambia, the children receive vitamin-enriched maize porridge every school day. World Porridge Day celebrates the huge difference this daily mug of porridge makes to the lives of chronically hungry children.  £2 provides a hungry child with meals in school for a month. You can pick up a portion of porridge oats in the parish centre after Mass and make a donation to Mary’s Meals. Thank you.
