SUNDAY OF ADVENT

John the Baptist the messenger from God, prepares us for Jesus’ coming
Thank you, Father, for every messenger of yours who stands unbowed in the godless spirit of our age.  Thank you for those who stand up for Justice and Truth before their own rights and freedom. May their example inspire us to the same faithfulness to Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

NINE LESSONS AND CAROLS:
This service takes place at St Paul’s Church, Woodland Road, N11, at 6.30 pm today, Sunday 14th December.  Our readers and choir take part, and mulled wine and mince pies will be available afterwards!  All welcome.

Please sign the sheets in the porch.  The Sacrament will be exposed this afternoon between 1.30 – 5.30 pm.  There must be someone on watch at all times.

Bible Sunday
Heavenly Father, you have shown through the Bible
the wonder of your love for us in Christ Jesus.  
Help us to understand your word with our minds
and apply it in our lives, for his name’s sake. Amen.

 

PRAYER FOR FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT
Jesus comes to us.
Lord, God, your Son will come again at the end of time,
but now he lives and suffers in today’s people.
Send us in love to those who need our time and our care,
our comfort and our possessions,
that we all may grow to be fully human,
fully like our Lord. Amen.

PARISH CHRISTMAS PARTY:
The Annual Christmas Party for ALL our parish volunteers will take place on Saturday 6th December in the Hall, after the 6.30 pm Mass.  Please do come along if you help in the Parish in anyway no matter how small you might think it is.  We look forward to seeing you.

SICK AND RETIRED PRIESTS FUND:
A very big thank you for your generosity last weekend.  A total of £2,616 was collected.

COFFEE MORNING:
A Coffee Morning and Sale for the North London Hospice will be held at 12, Betstyle Road on Wednesday 26th November from 10 am-12 noon.  Do come along, all are welcome.

JOHN KELLY RIP:
The requiem Mass will take place on Tuesday, 18th November at 7.30 pm, before returning to Ireland for burial.

There will be an afternoon of reflection and discussion for Eucharistic Ministers and Readers on Saturday 29th November, from 1.30 to 5.30 pm.  Please make every effort to attend.

SICK AND RETIRED PRIESTS FUND:

This collection will take place this weekend.  We now have over 80 sick and retired priests in the Diocese.  Please give as much as you can, and if you pay income tax, please consider completing the Gift Aid declaration on the envelope, adding a further 25% of your donation from tax already paid on your donation. Donations can also be made online at rcdow.org.uk/donations.  Thank you.

DEMENTIA FRIENDS:
The informal explanatory talks, given by Dementia Friends in our Small Hall, will end with the final session on Tuesday 11th November at 7.30 pm.  Please let the Office or www.dementiafriends.org.uk, know if you intend to come.

NOVEMBER BLESSING OF THE GRAVES:
If you wish to have a grave blessed please meet at the entrance of the cemeteries on the following dates and times in November:
Trent Park: 2.30 pm on Sunday 9th.
Bells Hill: 3 pm on Sunday 16th.
New Southgate: 2.30 pm on 23rd.

NOVEMBER DEAD CEMETERY MASSES:
Monday 10th November at St Mary’s, Kensal Green, and 17th November at St Patricks, Leytonstone.  Both are at 11.30 am.

ALL SOULS DAY:
All Souls Day will be commemorated on Monday 3rd November, with Mass at 8 am and 10 am.  There will also be a Candle Mass at 7.30 pm, at which you will be invited to light a candle in remembrance of your departed loved ones, and the Book of the Dead will be placed on the Sanctuary.

DEMENTIA FRIENDS:
There will be a number of informal explanatory talks given by Dementia Friends in our Small Hall during November.  Please let us know if you intend to come to one of them so that it can be geared to the amount of people present.  Please either register at www.dementiafriends.org.uk, or leave your name with the Office.  Sessions are on Saturday 8th November at 4.30 pm, or Friday 7th, or Tuesday 11th, both at 7.30 pm. 

CONVENT MASS:
The next Convent Mass will be on Thursday 6th November at 7.30 pm.

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY:
A very big thank your for your generous donations to World Mission Sunday last weekend.  A total of £1,697 was collected.

DEMENTIA FRIENDS:
You are invited to attend an informal information session to learn about the Dementia Friends Initiative and how we can create dementia friendly communities, in the Parish Hall on either: Saturday 1st, or  8th November at 4.30 pm, or Friday 7th, or Tuesday 11th, at 7.30 pm.  Each session will last an hour – you only have to attend once!  Please register your intention to attend on the Dementia Friends Website, www.dementiafriends.org.uk, or leave your name with the Office.
